In documents filed with the State Board of Elections show that since July, the Oberman campaign has raised approimately 330,000 since July from 700 individual donors, with a D-2 showing just under $200,000 raised and an A-1 filed yesterday with 80,000.

In one of the oddest political communications of the electoral season, Robin Kelly last week sent a message to her supporters in response to claims made by Democratic candidate for State Treasurer Justin Oberman that under Kelly’s watch the Treasurer’s office was both incompetent in its handling of Bright Start funds and dishonest with Illinois families in covering up the loss.

Treasurer candidate tours Southern Illinois
Justin Oberman, a Democratic candidate for state treasurer, made a visit Wednesday to Southern Illinois that included a speech to Franklin County Democ-rats.
Oberman spoke with The Southern on Wednesday to discuss his qualifications for the position. Oberman worked under Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta during the Bush Administration and was a member of the Homeland Security Policy Advisory Committee for President Barack Obama's campaign. The Illinois State Treasurer’s settlement deal with Oppenheimer Funds, Inc., which cements a 44% loss of college savings for families across Illinois, is inadequate. Justin Oberman, Democratic candidate for State Treasurer, said, “This situation is intolerable -- the State Treasurer’s office should have been better stewards of the families’ money. They should never have let Oppenheimer take these risks and a loss of this magnitude represents a breach of the Treasurer’s duty to safeguard the educational savings invested through the office.”
