I believe government is at its best when the needs of those it serves are paramount, and at its most harmful when elected and appointed officials place their political and financial interests ahead of pressing societal priorities. Generally speaking in Illinois, the latter is the norm.
The damage done to Illinois under our two previous governors is now dwarfed by the challenges facing us in the coming months and years. With economic output and public confidence in our institutions of government both at historic lows, the need for creative solutions to our toughest problems is acute.
We need fresh leadership in Springfield, we need proven private sector know-how paired with a commitment to the public good, and we need all parts of government – including the little-noticed Office of Lieutenant Governor – working for taxpayers.
I’m running for Lieutenant Governor because I am committed to addressing these historic challenges by putting the public interest first. I was raised to value public service as a privilege, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve our country in the wake of 9/11. This campaign is focused on the most serious issues and will show specifically how the Lt. Governor can help Illinois recover.
